The 10-storey building, which was heavily damaged in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes in the Kocasinan district of Kayseri, was evacuated for security reasons.
In Kayseri, where earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş are felt, the 10-storey Serap Apartment Building in Yeni Mahalle 13th Street in Kocasinan district was also damaged. A ‘heavily damaged’ report was given for the 28-year-old building, which was examined by the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The building, consisting of 30 flats, was evacuated for security reasons.
The building will be demolished later. Building resident Sinan Kaplan said, “Our building was built in 1995. I have been sitting for 5 years. 30 families live in this building. Our building was affected by the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş and received heavy damage. Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change Provincial Directorate teams evacuated our building on the grounds that it was heavily damaged. Under these conditions, we had a hard time finding a house for rent in Kayseri.
There is a situation of suffering here. It is unclear whether Kayseri will be declared a disaster area. Our state will not leave us alone, it will take care of us. But right now there is uncertainty; We don’t know what will happen,” he said. (DHA)
