138 sailors at the start of a "sensational and historic" edition



The twelfth edition of the Route du Rhum, the famous solo transatlantic race between Saint-Malo and Guadeloupe, is fast approaching. The organizers gave details on the event which will begin on November 6, Wednesday on the occasion of the official launch at the Mogador theater in Paris. The latter announced that 138 skippers would be at the start in Brittany, setting a new participation record (the last record was 124).

Joseph Bizard, direct general of OC Sport Pen Duick, in charge of the organization, announced a " absolutely sensational and historic race ". The 138 sailors will be divided into two categories: monohulls and multihulls. It is the latter that are likely to attract attention and more particularly the Ultim, these sailboats capable of reaching high speeds thanks to their foils. Technological innovations that could break the record of 7 days 14 hours and 21 minutes, established by Francis Joyon in 2018.
