On social networks, several Internet users did not fail to recall that Emmanuel Macron had inaugurated in 2017 the LGV allowing to rally, in less than an hour and a half Rennes from Parisby train, a means of transport that emits far fewer greenhouse gases than the plane.

“Hypocrisy”, denounced the leader of the Green deputies in the embly, Cyrielle Chatelain. “When we really became aware of the climate catastrophe, we don’t take the plane when we can make the trip in 1h30 with the train”, she said. “Yes, but they took the same plane… It’s still a small gesture,” mocked the Green MEP David Cormand.

Julia Castanier highlighted the difference in impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. “No really there is nothing to say, this government is on the offensive on the climate. It’s so scandalous, ”lamented the communication director of the PCF on X.

Paris-Rennes by train: 1h25 with the LGV, 1.7 kg of greenhouse gas / person
Paris-Rennes by plane: 1 hour 5 minutes, 82 kilos of greenhouse gases per person
No really there is nothing to say, this government is on the offensive on the climate 🙄. It’s so outrageous. https://t.co/tDN90nT1ib

The two members of the government were also greeted with pans and hostile slogans when they arrived around 10 a.m. at the Amandine Mallet primary school in Saint-Germain-sur-Ille.

This trip comes as Emmanuel Macron is expected to present his comprehensive green planning strategyand while France will experience yet another hot week.

The government also encourages the use of the train in prohibiting certain commercial flights when there is a rail alternative of less than 2h30.
