A court in Moscow arrested the second person involved in the case of the ex-Minister of Sports of Dagestan

The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested the second person involved in the criminal case, the ex-Minister of Sports of Dagestan and the head of the city of Kizilyurt Magomed Magomedov, the court’s press service reported.

We are talking about the head of the department of the regional Ministry of Sports, Khalitbeg Makhachev. The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention until December 2. Like Magomedov, he is charged with Part 4 of Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement on an especially large scale).

Previously, the court, at the request of the investigation, arrested Magomedov until December 2. The court hearing was held closed to the media and listeners at the request of the investigation, which was supported by the prosecutor’s office.

The Russian FSB detained Magomedov on October 3, after which he was taken to Moscow. After interrogation, he was charged with embezzlement on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The detailed plot of the case is still unknown, but the investigation accuses him of embezzling funds worth more than 1 million rubles. The official denies guilt. Lawyer Fyodor Bogatyrev told Vedomosti that he considers the charge absurd.

Mahachaev was detained together with Magomedov. The essence of the charges against him was not disclosed.

Magomedov became the mayor of Kizilyurt in May 2021. Before that, he served as the Minister of Sports of Dagestan since 2012.
