Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said on Saturday that Nepal has made good preparations for his visit to India this time and it will write a new history in bilateral relations. Prachanda’s visit to India has been postponed thrice due to various reasons. The 68-year-old leader of the CPN-Maoist Center will be Dahal’s first foreign trip after becoming prime minister for the third time in December last year. He said, “We have prepared well for the visit to India this time. I feel that India has also made serious preparations for the visit.” Prachanda said during a conversation with a leading Nepalese newspaper ‘Kantipur Daily’, “This time I will visit India with this confidence. I am sure that a new history will be created.
He said, “This time, I am sure, something new will be achieved from the Nepal visit. I believe that Nepal-India relations will be taken to a new height. For both Nepal and India, the visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new areas of economic cooperation. There is a possibility of going on an official trip. However, there is no official announcement yet on the date and itinerary of the proposed visit.
When “Prachanda” was asked why he chose to visit India first after taking over as prime minister for the third time, he said, “Although there is no legal or political compulsion to go to India first, But there is a tradition to do so because we have an open border and our relationship is unique because of economic, political, social and cultural proximity and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
Prachanda, however, during his first term as prime minister in 2008 “broke with tradition by visiting China first”. A request was made to postpone the yatra for some time due to elections there. I then told him that it would not be possible to travel before the Finance Minister presented the budget on May 29.
Responding to a question on media reports regarding BJP providing funds to some Nepali leaders to promote Hinduism, Prachanda said it is a very sensitive issue. Prachanda said, “The government has taken this issue very seriously and as the visit to India is about to take place, I think there is a need to have some kind of consensus with New Delhi in this regard.
