Abuse in the French gym team: the Ministry of Sports takes several measures

Since the broadcast of a report on Sunday evening in the program “Stade 2” in which six former gymnasts from the French team reported abuse, the Minister of Sports and the Olympic Games Amélie Oudéa-Castéra took matters into her own hands. On Tuesday, the president of the French gymnastics federation (FFG) James Blateau and the DTN Kevinn Rabaud were summoned to the ministry. Several measures resulted from this meeting.

Two investigations launched

Two investigations will be launched concerning two people implicated, one by the departmental service for youth, commitment and sports (SDJES) concerned, and which could lead to a ban on exercising for the former supervisor. .

The other coach, still in office, will be received by the sports management and possibly suspended pending the conclusions of the disciplinary investigation.

Monday, a time of exchange between the gyms

Two meetings were held Monday at the headquarters of the French Federation, the executive office and another, informal. At Insep as well as at the Olympic Pole in Saint-Etienne, the gymnasts present at training on Monday morning had time to discuss the subject with each other. The DTN then discussed with the athletes from Insep.

These testimonies, which relate serious facts, come in a difficult context for the FFG, less than two months after the trial of the technical director of the France gymnastics center in Marseille Vincent Pateau.

Sentenced a few days ago to a six-month suspended prison sentence for moral harment, the ministry will extend the legal decision on the sporting aspect by prohibiting him from exercising ” any management function “, that is to say a ban on training and advising athletes. A former coach of the Marseille pole, Pierre Ettel, must also be tried for moral harment on November 7.

Nemour cleared to compete for Algeria

The minister also positioned herself on the conflict between the Federation and the Avoine-Beaumont club, asking for the rapid outcome of the ongoing investigation. She also indicated that Kaylia Nemour, collateral victim of this conflict, had the authorization to participate in the African Championships, whose holding is imminent. The gymnast had been asking the Federation for months to allow her to compete under the flag of Algeria.

A follow-up point with the leaders of the federation on all the actions undertaken will be organized within two weeks, specifies the press release.
