Twenty-six years after Emmanuel Durant in Vancouver, France again has a vice-world trampoline champion. Allant Morante managed to do well at the Sofia Worlds where the Chinese Gao Lei, quadruple world champion, and Dong Dong, Olympic champion in London in 2012, were absent, as was the Belarusian Olympic champion Ivan Litvinovich. Reigning European ChampionMorante (28) had a good card to play and he didn’t hesitate.
In the individual final, he scored 58.710 points and won his first-ever individual world medal after five world finals. New Zealander Dylan Schmidt was crowned world champion (60.720 pts) and Japanese Yamato Ishikawa (58.480 pts) completed the podium.
The women’s event saw the Japanese Hikaru Mori (23), already individual world champion (Tokyo, in 2019), win a second world title with 56.230 points. She is ahead of the British Bryony Page (55,950 pts) and the Chinese Yichen Hu (55,810 pts). The French champion, bronze medalist at the European Championships in Rimini in JuneLéa Labrousse finished 7th with 54.530 pts.
