Asvel qualifies for the final of the Women’s French Cup
The first of three confrontations in March between Asvel and Villeneuve-d’Ascq smiled on the Lyonnaises. Before their duel in the semi-finals of the Eurocup, on March 15 and 23, the two teams met at the same stage, this Wednesday, in the Coupe de France. Carried by 21 points from Gabby Williams, Asvel won with authority at the Palacium (77-64).
David Gautier’s players made the difference in a one-sided third quarter, winning 20-9. Sandrine Gruda (12 points, 9 rebounds) and Julie Allemand (10 points, 8 assists) revived the Rhone attack during that the Northerners, held at 37% in shooting, broke their teeth against the opposing basket, despite the efforts of Kennedy Burke (29 points, 8 rebounds).
Asvel will play its first Coupe de France final on April 21, against Basket Landes, defending champion, or SIG Strasbourg, second division resident. The second finalist will be known on March 15 after the duel between the two teams in Alsace.
