Launched on Friday evening, the 36e edition of the Telethon ended on the night of Saturday December 3 to Sunday December 4 at 2 a.m. with pledges amounting to 78,051,091 euros. In a difficult economic context for the French, this is more than the 73,622,019 euros collected at the same time last year.
The 2021 edition, which had partly returned to the field after the 2020 confinement, had collected in the end some 86 million euros, practically at the pre-Covid level. This year, the counter remains open until Friday, December 9 and donations can be made by phone (36-37) or internet (telethon.fr).
After 30 hours of live on the antennas of France Télévisions, the charity marathon was judged as a ” hit “ by Laurence Tiennot-Herment, president of the AFM-Téléthon.
Without research, without the will of the families and without the generosity of all, we would not be where we are today. The first victories have paved the way but we must continue for all those who are waiting and this exceptional counter in view of a difficult context, allows us to do so.
“The Reunion Telethon”
After two years disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, this 2022 edition returned fully to the field, with events in more than 13,000 municipalities.
“It’s the reunion Telethon after two years of frustrationhad recognized a little earlier Laurence Tiennot-Herment. We know the economic situation. There is inflation but also the World Cup [de football] and for as much on the ground it is the party and the reunion. »
Saturday evening, alongside comedian Kev Adams, the godfather of the edition, many artists were alongside families, patients and researchers on the set of France Télévisions.
After the first advances, for example against immune deficiencies, the work funded by the Telethon targets more complex pathologies, such as neuromuscular diseases. Three years ago, a treatment for spinal muscular atrophy, a disease which condemned babies to an early death, was thus put on the market.
Beyond rare diseases, which affect approximately 3 million people in France, the innovations resulting from research supported by the Telethon also inspire therapeutic solutions for widespread diseases such as neurodegenerative pathologies or cancers.
