Between 2 to 3 million French people expected at the Printemps du Cinéma

The choice of films to be shown is very important. There is something for every taste: Alibi.com 2 by Philippe Lacheau, Scream VI, Creed III… Joly Victor/ABACA

From Sunday March 19 to Tuesday March 21, the 2,000 cinemas in France display the single price of 5 euros. With many films on the bill, exhibitors are optimistic.

After the February holidays, the French continued to go to the cinema at a steady pace. Week after week, attendance exceeds 3 million entries. The three days of Printemps du Cinéma, which start this Sunday, March 19, should allow this famous ripple effect to continue. The entry price will be 5 euros. At UGC, loyalty points will be doubled on the purchase of tickets, drinks and other popcorn. At Pathé, this will be an opportunity to test the premium rooms. At Pathé Parnasse, the first 100% premium cinema in the capital, admission will be 9 euros instead of 18.50 euros. In its “concept” rooms such as Dolby Cinema, Imax and 4DX with moving seats… Pathé will ask for a supplement of 6 euros. In normal times, the price of the place in these rooms climbs up to 36 euros like at Pathé la Joliette in Marseille, the most expensive multiplex in France. Testing these rooms for 11 euros is therefore an opportunity not to be missed. On the other hand, Pathé will not follow the example of UGC on loyalty points. “Since the creation of Printemps du Cinéma in 2000, we have always fluctuated between 2 and 3 million admissions over three days. Given the wide choice of films on display, we should do at least as well as the 2.15 million admissions in 2022. In 2018, which had been a record, we were at 3.1 million admissions”, explains Marc-Olivier Sebbag, general delegate of the National Federation of Cinemas (FNCF). A priori, the rumble in the street against the pension reform will have no impact. “None of the demonstrations of recent times has prevented the French from pushing the door of the cinemas”, points out Marc-Olivier Sebbag.

Unlike 2022, the choice of films to be shown is very important. There is something for every taste. For movies released a while ago like Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom by Guillaume Canet and Alibi.com 2 of Philippe Lacheau, it will be an opportunity to end their career in style. The first can hope to reach a total of 5 million entries, the second 4 million entries. For newly released movies like The Fabelmans by Steven SpielbergEmpire of Light by Sam Mendes or The small victories by Mélanie Auffret with Michel Blanc and Julia Piaton which is the good surprise of the March box office with already 400,000 admissions, Creed III by Michael B. Jordan, my crime by François Ozon or even The trade unionist by Jean-Paul Salomé, this is an opportunity to give their starters a boost. Finally for crazy bear by Elizabeth Banks or The Chamber of Wonders by Lisa Azuelos with Alexandra Lamy released this Wednesday, it’s an opportunity to attract a wider audience and get more word-of-mouth.
