Biden’s vague promises to von der Leyen

The President of the European Commission is aiming for an agreement on critical raw materials.

The objective is clear: to have an agreement so that critical raw materials extracted or transformed in the EU are recognized as if they had been produced in the United States, so that they can benefit from the advantages granted by the United States” , European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Friday after her meeting with US President Joe Biden in Washington. A promise of concession from the US government on theInflation Reduction Act (IRA) which has yet to materialize.
This law, which since January has implemented a program endowed with 369 billion dollars in subsidies and tax credits to decarbonize the American economy, irritates Europeans, who fear a wave of relocations to the United States, given massive support for industries.
