Bob Bryan Named USA Davis Cup Team Captain

A doubles legend will succeed Mardy Fish on the bench for the USA Davis Cup team. Bob Bryan is the new USA Davis Cup captain, the National Tennis Association (USTA) announced on Monday.

Along with his brother Mike, Bob Bryan has won 16 Grand Slam doubles titles. The twins played in the Davis Cup from 2003 to 2020, helping USA win their last trophy in 2007 to take the record to 32 titles.

Acting captain and now incumbent

“I am extremely honored to become the captain of the USA Davis Cup team”said in a press release the 44-year-old retiree, who will therefore return to service on the edge of the courts. “I have been inspired by the rise of these young American players and I am motivated to contribute to this positive momentum. I look forward to working with the players, their coaches, teams and USTA support staff on our mission to bring the Cup back to the United States.”.

Bob Bryan served as interim captain when Mardy Fish was unable to travel to Scotland after contracting Covid-19 last year. The American will take charge of the team for the Davis Cup group stage next September. The United States qualified there by sweeping Uzbekistan (4-0) in early February.
