Dhesi, MP from Slough seat, also claimed that many British Sikhs are in touch with him on this issue. He said on ‘X’, “Worrying reports are coming from Canada. Sikhs from Slough and many other areas have contacted me, worried, angry or scared. Given that Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau has said he is working closely with close allies, we are in touch with the UK government to ensure justice is served.
British Sikh MPs Preet Kaur Gill and Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi have termed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations against India over the killing of a separatist Sikh leader as ‘worrying’. Canada and India on Tuesday expelled each other’s senior diplomats from their respective countries following Trudeau’s allegations that Indian government agents were involved in the murder of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar (45). India has vehemently rejected Trudeau’s allegations, calling them ‘absurd’ and ‘baseless’. Nijjar, the chief of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) and one of India’s most wanted terrorists, was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen on June 18 outside a Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia province of Canada.
MPs from the opposition Labor Party, which represents Sikh-dominated constituencies in England, claimed on social media on Tuesday that they had been contacted by people in their constituency about Trudeau’s allegations. Sikh MPs said they were raising their concerns directly with government ministers. Gill, MP from Birmingham Edgbaston, said on ‘X’, “Prime Minister Trudeau’s statement on the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar is extremely worrying.” He said, “It is important that Canada conducts its own investigation and those responsible are punished.” “I want to reure the people of my constituency that I and my colleagues are raising our concerns with ministers.”
