Bruno Martini resigns as NHL president, David Tebib interim president

Tuesday morning, there was an ordinary steering committee in video of the National Handball League, the independent body which organizes the French Men’s Championships of D1 (Liqui Moly Starligue) and D2 (Proligue). Bruno Martini, its president since November 2021, was absent, unreachable. No one knew he was then in custody.

The Franceinfo revelations fell on the heads of Etienne Capon, the general manager of the NHL, and vice-president David Tebib at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The two leaders quickly spoke with Philippe Bana, the president of the Federation, the minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra and the stakeholders of the professional hand.

The reaction was very quick. Following an exceptional steering committee convened at 1 p.m., the League called on Martini to resignknowing that his condemnation will automatically result in the impossibility of exercising his functions. The former French international resigned a few hours later, the body announced in the afternoon. An elective general meeting has been scheduled for March 7; in the meantime, it is Tebib who will take care of the interim.

The National Handball League has changed its president four times in less than five years.

This is the fourth time the League has changed hands in less than five years. David Tebib (52), however, embodies a form of stability. The Gardois, boss of the Nîmes club and also of the Union des clubs (UCPH), had already ensured a long interim between August 2020 and November 2021 following the resignation of Olivier Girault, who was embarking on the election for the presidency of the Federation. According to our information, the Nîmes is expected to be elected titular president on March 7.
