The encrypted channel announced many sports news yesterday. From the new international basketball prodigy to the star of the XV of France ping by an unexpected contract, overview of what awaits you on the antennas of the group.
During the presentation of its back-to-school schedules last night in Paris, Canal+ was unanimous with regard to the sports programming of its branches. With more than 10,000 hours of sport planned on the group’s various channels in 2023-2024, subscribers will have enough to satisfy their thirst for performance, victories and novelties.
With one watchword: total immersion. From Formula 1 paddocks to Top 14 rugby locker rooms, flying over golf fairways or visiting Moto GP stands, the cameras of the encrypted channel will not miss a beat of the events it broadcasts.
Among the most anticipated novelties of the new school year, the exclusive documentary dedicated to the French basketball player Victor Wembanyama (“Wemby” by his nickname), the first tricolor to be selected number 1 in the NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs. Entitled “Un1que” – the 1 being the number worn by Wembanyama on his jersey -, the documentary followed for a year the new international basketball prodigy who fascinates the whole world. His quest for the title of champion of France with the Mets, his frantic arrival in San Antonio (Tony Parker’s lifelong club), his family life and his many requests: the cameras have missed nothing of the last twelve months of the Wembanyama phenomenon.
Another French phenomenon, the rugby player Antoine Dupont is also the subject of a new documentary, Dupont, of course. The captain of the XV of France and Stade Toulousain, champion of France this season, has been shining in the firmament of French and world rugby for several years. Named best player in the world last year, he has become THE essential figure in the oval. In this program, Canal+ will look back on his life as a person and his extraordinary sporting career with many images and testimonials from his relatives and those who knew him.
Who wants to comment on football on Canal+?
“This is the story of an incredible idea that the sports boss of Canal + hadThomas Senecal. That of a television competition to find the new football commentator on Canal + next season! » It is with these words that Gérald-Brice Viret, the general manager of Canal +, announced the arrival of the program “At the microphone, a new voice for football”. The concept is simple: find the next football commentator on the encrypted channel thanks to a contest in which anonymous people will compete for 9 episodes. Even if it looks like it, we are neither in “The Voice” nor in “Incredible Talent”. And neither Florent Pagny nor Eric Antoine will vote. Instead, a jury made up of Laure Boulleau, Hervé Mathoux and David Ginola will designate the winner with the prestigious reward: a contract with the Canal+ sports editorial staff!
Always in the news department, we will finally note the documentary Not a game which follows the rugby players of the women’s section of the Stade Français; Prost, the last lessona series in 6 episodes which retraces the career of the greatest French driver in the history of F1; Gabart, the Ultim challengea film about the French skipper’s last two Routes du Rhum; In the eyes of mine, a documentary on OM and its supporters; or the two new episodes of the series Alpine, a season in blue white red which follows the daily life of the only 100% French F1 team.
