750,000 jobs and 225 billion in business volume

The FCD represents most of the large food retailers (Auchan, Aldi, Casino, Système U, etc.), with the notable exception of the leader in the sector, the group of independent E.Leclerc, and number three in the sector, Intermarché. Carrefour is number two in the sector in France. The FCD also counts among its members non-food brands, such as Boulanger, Darty or Go Sport.

It estimates the number of jobs in the sector at 750,000, with “more than 30,000 points of sale for a business volume of approximately 225 billion euros excluding tax“, and claims to intervene”in the areas of food security, sustainable development, economic relations“with supermarket suppliers, “relations with social partners» as well as on topics related to land use planning.

In July, Carrefour announced its intention to buy all of its stores in France, where it is known under the Cora and Match brands, from the Belgian group Louis Delhaize. At the end of the operation, scheduled for the summer of 2024, Louis Delhaize should no longer be present in France.
