Cornhole the American craze of small bags arrives in France

An easy sport to play, but difficult to master. DR

INFOGRAPHICS – Throwing a bag of corn into a mouse hole is the challenge faced by Cornhole players this weekend during the world championships which, for the first time, are taking place in France, at the Charléty stadium in Paris. .

According to the most probable hypothesis, the cornhole (or game of pockets in Quebec) which consists of sending bags of corn into a hole, was invented by Bavarian peasants in the 14e century. German migrants, crossing the Atlantic, would have introduced it to America. At the end of the last century, the practice flourished in the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, which today is considered the birthplace of the modern game. Players come together to have a good time, especially trying not to spill their gl of beer held in one hand while throwing their bag with the other. During the 2000s, order was put in the hazard of the rules which became standardized and in 2006 the first world championship was organised. The practice really exploded a few years later. Several million Americans indulge in it today, supervised by three federations. Conquered in turn, the Europeans who travel to the United States bring the game back to the old continent.
