The lawsuit filed against 10 people, including Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, owner of SBK Holding, and related companies that are “materially liable”, on charges of laundering the value of ets obtained from the USA with unjust gains, continued. At the 7th hearing of the case at the Istanbul 10th Criminal Court of First Instance, the lawyers of the accused were present.
He requested that the arrest warrant be lifted
Murat Volkan Dülger, the lawyer of the accused Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, said, “My client is in detention in the USA. He is awaiting trial. A red notice has been issued about it. We demand that the warrant for arrest in absentia be lifted for my client and that all the measures taken against SBK Holding, like him, be lifted.”
The lawyers of the other defendants took the floor and demanded that the bank measures and other injunctions against their clients be lifted.
DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE APPROVAL DECISION
The court decided that the arrest warrant for the defendants Jacop Ortell Kingston and Leon Termendzhyan and the arrest warrant for Sezgin Baran Korkmaz will continue and the execution will be awaited. On the other hand, the court ruled to await the outcome of the judicial letter written to the judicial authorities of this country for the defense of the defendants Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, Jacob Ortell Kingston and Leon Termendzhyan, who are in the United States, and for the determination of the evidence.
EVENT HISTORY
In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) affiliated to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, 10 people, including Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, who were harmed by the crime, took place as suspects.
In the indictment, it was noted that an analysis report was sent to the prosecutor’s office by MASAK on September 28, 2020, and that they acted jointly with the people around Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, one of the suspects in the report, and transferred the unfair profits they had obtained through their contacts in the USA to the company accounts they had established through numerous bank transactions or that they were authorized.
The suspects Kamil Feridun Özkaraman, Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, Alptekin Yılmaz, Olessia Zoubkova, Ayşe Nil Yılmaz, Bereket Öner and Ziyaattin Bartik were charged with the crime of purchasing, accepting, possessing or using the property value which constitutes the subject of the crime, knowingly, for a period of 3 years and 7 years. sentenced to imprisonment of up to 6 months.
Suspects Jacob Ortell Kingston and Levon Termendzhyan (Lev Aslan Dermen) were charged 4 years separately with the crime of ‘taking the property values resulting from a crime to take them abroad or to conceal their illegitimate source or to create the opinion that they were obtained in a legitimate way’. It was demanded that he be sentenced to imprisonment from 6 months to 10 years and 6 months.
The suspect Doğa Doğan was sentenced to imprisonment from 1 year, 6 months to 3 years and 9 months for the crime of ‘aiding in the crime of laundering property values arising from crime’.
