He was the man of three French championship finals: rare are those who have officiated so much at this level. Didier Mené, who had refereed the finals of 2000, 2002 and 2006, died Friday at the age of 59. Respected, the chemical engineer by training had also refereed at international level for seven years, since his first appearance in 1994 for an Argentina – United States meeting. In February 1995, at the age of 30, he even became the youngest French referee in a match of the Five Nations Tournament (at the time) during Wales-England.
A rich career on the ground which he ended in 2009, to take the presidency of the central committee of referees, in other words the boss of French whistles. A position he will hold until 2016. Dismissed by the newly elected President of the Federation Bernard Laporte – Led was present on the list of the outgoing candidate Pierre Camou -, he will join Florian Grill’s opposition list in 2020.
