Guy Drut mentioned a possible French candidacy for the 2030 Winter Olympics which should be awarded next year. The oldest of the French members of the IOC indicated that the two current projects, that of Rhône-Alpes and the Southern Alps, had to merge. “If we succeed, we have a small chance, a chance, to get them”said the 1976 Olympic champion in the 110m hurdles.
“If the request is made only by the Southern Alps, it will not work. We need an application bringing together the Southern Alps and the Northern Alps”said Drut, referring for example to the ice events in Nice and the one on tracks in the North.
He also indicated that Martin Fourcade, five-time Olympic biathlon champion and IOC member, would support such a candidacy. It is still necessary for the CNOSF to submit the application, which has not been done and was not discussed on Tuesday evening.
