El. ME 2024 – Lewandowski: we have to change something

Robert Lewandowski could not explain the reasons for the 0-2 defeat against Albania in Sunday’s European Championship qualifying match in Tirana, although he admitted that “something” had to change in the team.

“We failed. We have to apologize to the fans for what we showed. I feel responsible for this. I may also feel sorry and resentful towards myself. There was commitment, but it was not enough. Powerlessness and helplessness. It’s even hard to find words,” said the Barcelona player in an interview with TVP Sport.

“We have had problems since the beginning of the qualifying round. We have to change something so that the national team can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he added.

The Polish national team suffered their third defeat in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Previously, they also lost away to the Czech Republic 1:3 and to Moldova 2:3.

Lewandowski could not answer the question of what happened to the team that, until recently, with almost the same lineup, could play much better.

“It’s hard to say what happened. In fact, the team hasn’t changed much. I don’t want to look for a translation, but a solution must be found,” he said.

The Barcelona striker did not want to comment on the future of national team coach Fernando Santos. “It’s not my role,” he said.

Poland is fourth in group E of the Euro 2024 qualifying round. It has six points, four less than leader Albania and two less than the Czech Republic and Moldova. (PAP)
