Red lantern of the Italian championship and swept 7-0 by AS Roma on Sunday, the Empoli team has decided to part ways with its coach.

After only four days in the Italian Championship, a first coach was sacked on Tuesday: it is Paolo Zanettiwhose team, Empoli, was swept 7-0 by AS Roma on Sunday.

Empoli announces that it has withdrawn responsibility for its first team from Paolo Zanetti and his two istants, Nicola Beati and Fabio Trentin», announced the Tuscan club in a first press release.

Shortly after, the red lantern of the Italian Championship revealed the name of its new coach, Aurelio Andreazzoli, 69, who “committed until the end of the season, with an option for an additional season“.

Zanetti, 40, had been in charge of Empoli since June 2022 and had ensured his team, which finished last season in 14th place, remained in the elite.

But Empoli lost their first four matches this season, and conceded 12 goals, without scoring a single one.

It is up to Andreazzoli, who has already coached the club three times (2017-18, 2018-19, 2021-22), to relaunch a team which is making the elevator between Serie A and Serie B.
