Release:

Erdoğan, in New York, where he was for the 78th General embly of the United Nations (UN), answered questions about the agenda as a guest of the American PBS channel.
When asked whether Turkey was ready to give up its membership in the European Union (EU), Erdoğan said that Turkey attaches importance to the decisions of the EU and said, “If the EU makes a positive decision, we would welcome it. Türkiye has been stalled at the door of the EU for the last 50 years. We have always been a self-sufficient country. “We have never needed the EU’s contributions or support, we do not need it.” he said.
“TERRORISTS ARE TRAVELING THE STREETS OF STOCKHOLM”
Noting that Sweden should keep its promises regarding terrorism, Erdoğan said, “We still see terrorists walking around the streets of Stockholm.”
President Erdoğan stated that Sweden’s proposal to join NATO will be evaluated by the Grand National embly of Turkey (GNAT) and that this is where it will ultimately be approved, adding: “This is part of the agenda of the Turkish Grand National embly. The Parliament will evaluate the situation within the framework of its own calendar. “This proposal will be put to the vote of MPs,” he said.
“For this to happen, Sweden must of course keep its promises. Terrorist organizations must immediately stop their demonstrations and activities on the streets of Stockholm. Because it will be very important for the Turkish people to see this actually happen. “Sweden seems to have made changes to the legislation, but this is not enough.”
Regarding whether he thinks that the USA’s sale of F-16s to Turkey and Sweden’s membership in NATO are related, Erdoğan said: “In my opinion, there should be no connection. President (Joe) Biden said that Congress will decide on this issue. We always say that we also have the Turkish Grand National embly. In other words, the parliament decides these issues. “If the parliament does not make a positive decision on this issue, then there is nothing to do about it.” made his essment.
“BOB MENENEDEZ DOES NOT KNOW ERDOĞAN”
Regarding the negative approach of figures in the US Congress, such as Senator Bob Menendez, to the sale of F-16s to Turkey, using a number of issues such as the security of Greece, Erdoğan said: “Bob Menendez does not know Turkey. “It seems that Bob Menendez does not know Tayyip Erdoğan either,” he said.
Pointing out that Greece and Turkey have an ancient friendship, Erdoğan said, “Menendez seems to have a hostile approach towards Turkey and is trying to draw us into a certain discussion area he has chosen. But we won’t be a part of it. “Our friendship with Greece is not what they think,” he said.
Regarding the criticism of some US senators regarding Turkey’s decision not to impose sanctions on Russia at the same level as “the EU and other NATO members” in the context of the Ukraine war, Erdogan said, “Are we going to do what the EU members are doing?” Turkey’s position in the world is different, EU member states are different. “Russia is one of our closest neighbors and we have a common history,” he said.
Reminding that 33 million tons of grain were exported thanks to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which Turkey also pioneered, President Erdoğan said, “We did not do this because the EU wanted it. “This was a humanitarian obligation we took on.” He made a statement.
Asked why Russian President Vladimir Putin did not revive the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Erdoğan replied, “We (Putin) asked them and they said they would send 1 million tons more.”
HIS WORDS ABOUT RUSSIA BECAME THE AGENDA
Erdoğan stated that Putin said that grain exports would start immediately and that they are following the developments.
“Do you trust him (Putin) to keep this promise?” In response to the question, President Erdoğan said, “There is no reason for me not to trust (Putin). Russia is at least as reliable as the West. It is the EU that has kept us waiting at its door for 50 years. “Right now, I trust Russia as much as I trust the West,” he replied.
To a question about Putin using the grain agreement as an advantage in the Ukraine war and that his leadership cannot be trusted, Erdoğan said: “I disagree. Half of my natural gas comes from Russia, which means we are in solidarity. We are taking joint steps and cooperating in the field of defense industry. “We can do these with Russia,” he replied.
Erdogan, on the question about his talks with Putin about the Ukraine war, said:
“To be very clear, it is clear that this war will last a long time and that the war will not end anytime soon. We want to be very hopeful. Mr. Putin is actually in favor of ending this war as soon as possible. I’m just saying this according to his words, Mr. Putin wants this war to end as soon as possible. “That’s what he said and I believe his words,” he said.
