Florida: 25 people detained. Fraudsters sold thousands of fake nursing diplomas

Federal law enforcement has arrested 25 people in Florida who were behind a cable scam to create an illegal, “easier way” for aspiring nurses to qualify. Fraudsters have already sold thousands of fake nursing licenses.
According to recently released court documents, the suspects are accused of participating in the issuance and sale of 7,600 fake nursing diplomas on behalf of three Florida medical schools, Huffpost reports.
“Not only is this a threat to public safety, but it also tarnishes the reputation of nurses who actually complete the demanding clinical classes and courses required for professional licensing and employment,” said U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Markenza Lapointe.
Lapointe added that “a fraud scheme like this is eroding public trust in our healthcare system.”
The fake diplomas and transcripts qualified those who purchased them to take the national nursing exam. If they passed, they were able to get licenses and work in different states, prosecutors said.
