THEY SHINED

Logically elected man of the match, the Englishman George Ford (8/10) had a full match. The Sale Sharks opener scored all of his team’s points and made three drops! A performance which equals that of the illustrious Jonny Wilkinson, who also planted three drops against France in 2003. The World Cup record still belongs to Springbok Jannie De Beer, author of five successful attempts against the poles in 1999 against… England. Ford’s performance is only tarnished by two mistakes in quick succession in the 57the minute of play, with too long a kick then a direct touch. But no one is perfect.

As usual, the second line of Saracens Maro Itoje (7.5/10) was omnipresent in defense. Beyond its precious scratchings, its grinta guided his team and made the difference against the physically dominated Argentines.
