Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan’s former foreign minister and vice-chairman of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, was arrested again on Tuesday, soon after he was released from Rawalpindi jail on the orders of a top court. Qureshi, 66, served as Pakistan’s foreign minister from 2018 to 2022 under Khan’s regime. According to Geo TV, the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday ordered Qureshi’s release. Qureshi was among the top leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) arrested following violent protests following Khan’s arrest on May 9. Khan’s supporters vandalized a dozen military installations including Lahore Corps Commander House, Mianwali airbase, ISI building in Faisalabad and also set fire to sensitive defense installations. The Army Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi was also attacked by the mob for the first time. Like Qureshi, Khan’s close aide and former human rights minister Shireen Mazari was also arrested again on Monday. Mazari on Tuesday announced his decision to quit the party and his retirement from active politics.
