Four candidates from Nepal’s three main political parties will file their nominations for the post of Vice President on Saturday. The Vice-Presidential election will be held on March 17. Assistant Electoral Officer Amrita Kumari Sharma said that the nomination papers would be filed at the Parliament House in New Baneshwar from 9 am to 2 pm. According to party sources, four candidates are likely to file nominations for the post of Vice President. The CPN-UML has decided to nominate Astha Lakshmi Shakya as its candidate for the post of Vice President. Similarly, Janmat Party has decided to make Mamta Jha and Janata Samajwadi Party Pramila Yadav and Ram Sahay Yadav as candidates. Voting for the Vice-Presidential election will be held on March 17. Both Jha and Yadav belong to the Madhesi community and both are part of the eight-party alliance. The Madhesi community in Nepal’s southern Terai region consists mostly of people of Indian origin.
