The French media pose the question “Who is able to stop Iga Świątek on flour?” after a two hundred victory of the world ranking leader with the American Cori Gauff in the quarterfinals of the French Open Grand Slam.
Journalists of the francetvinfo.fr website compare Świątek’s path in this year’s French Open to a “health walk” and pose the question: “who is able to stop Iga Świątek on flour?”.
“The rounds are progressing one after the other, the opponents are getting stronger, but the end is always the same – the Polish woman, smiling broadly, stands in front of the microphone for the post-match interview to the applause of the fans on the court of Philippe Chatrier” – one of the articles reads.
“Iga Świątek is unstoppable” – the author sums up and asks “who, if not a Pole, will be able to bring the Brazilian down to earth?”
The daily “L’Equipe” mentions that “this time it was a (a bit) match”, referring to last year’s French Open final, in which the leader of the world ranking completely dominated the American, winning 6-1, 6-3 in just over an hour. The authors of the article also point out the style in which Świątek advanced to the top four of the tournament.
“As always impressive at key moments, the world’s number one tennis player reaches the semi-finals on clay in Paris without dropping a single set,” reads the daily’s website.
“It wasn’t a real fight, just a few smaller skirmishes” – this is how the match was summed up by the daily “L’Alsace”, emphasizing that the Polish woman is on the right track to defend her title.
“She is in great shape and is also less tired than the other players from the top four, as she has spent only five hours and 32 minutes on the courts in the French capital so far,” reads the daily’s website.
The semi-final of the Polish woman with the Brazilian is scheduled for Thursday. (PAP)
