A resident of the Rostov region was detained on suspicion of transferring data to Ukraine about one of the military facilities in the territory of the Krasnodar Territory, the press service of the regional department of the FSB of Russia told RIA Novosti.
“The man collected and handed over to the representative of the Ukrainian military formations information about one of the military facilities located on the territory of the Krasnodar Territory,” the intelligence service said.
This data could be used by the Ukrainian side to strike at this facility, according to the FSB. The detainee is 23 years old, he corresponded with a person who used a Ukrainian number and presented himself as a representative of the military formations of Ukraine.
A criminal case has been initiated against the man under Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of Russia (high treason).
Last spring, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a law imposing life sentences for high treason. Citizens can receive such a term for espionage, issuance of information constituting state secrets to foreigners, defecting to the side of the enemy, etc.
On August 19, the FSB announced the detention of a resident of the Luhansk People’s Republic, who since August last year had been transmitting data about the Russian military to Ukraine. A criminal case was initiated against the woman under Art. 276 of the Criminal Code (espionage), she faces up to 20 years in prison. On August 17, it became known that under the same article a case was initiated against another resident of the LPR, who also transferred data on the military and equipment to Ukraine.
On September 5, the FSB detained a resident of the Krasnodar Territory who was trying to leave the country to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
