Will we see Gaël Monfils again on a tennis court in 2022? Nothing is less certain, the French number one having withdrawn from the ATP 250 in Sofia (September 26-October 2) and the ATP 500 in Astana (October 3-9). Monfils had already declared package for the Moselle Open last week.
Yet author of a good start to the season, with a title in Adelaide and a quarter-final at the Australian Open, "la Monf" then chained the galleys. Embarrassed by a calcaneal thorn in his right foot, the Frenchman had to give up Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. Returning to competition in Montreal in August, Monfils relapsed in his round of 16 and has not appeared since.
The current 32nd player in the world is still registered in Florence (October 10-16) and Naples (October 17-23).
