A book brings together sketches, texts and press clippings around Pico’s famous painting and a work of the same dimensions offered by Jean-Pierre Raynaud to Ukraine in February 2023.
On April 21, 2022, during the Venice Biennale, President Zelensky urged global cultural actors to support his country: “There is no tyranny that does not try to limit art, because art has power. Art can tell the world what cannot be said otherwise. Art communicates a feeling. »
His appeal was heard by Jean-Pierre Raynaud, who decided to create a work “as evocative as Guernica by Pico”, in the words of publisher Baudouin Jannink. Raynaud’s work, entitled Untitled-Ukraine, was offered to Ukraine on February 24, 2023, one year after the Russian invasion, during a ceremony in the main courtyard of the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University.
The work taken from this great adventure brings together the sketches, texts, press clippings accompanying the creation of Guernica in 1937 and the pendant for Untitled-Ukraine by Raynaud. With his giant, target-shaped, blood-red forbidden senses, Raynaud closes the door to war, to its atrocities, to this deprivation of freedom.
Profits from the sale of this work, which exists in current edition and top edition, will be donated to Ukraine.
