The first cohorts of baccalaureate holders to have tested Parcoursup to enter higher education will also be those who will test a twin platform from 2023 to apply for university masters. With one notable difference, however: these two-year second-cycle courses, accessible to holders of a bachelor’s degree, are supposed to be selective.
This “Parcoursup des masters”, which awaits an official name, was presented on November 15 to elected students and teachers invited to vote, in a consultative manner, on its regulatory framework at the National Council for Higher Education and Research (Cneser ). The project aims to streamline the procedures of students, who until now have sent in more files – sometimes up to 80 – and juggle with the different schedules of each faculty. The two texts, a draft decree and a draft decree, were largely rejected by 35 votes against, 18 abstentions and 13 in favour.
The Minister of Higher Education, Sylvie Retailleau, hopes to establish through this unique portal “a national mapping of places available in Masters in relation to student demand”. One way to end the quarrel over numbers that reappears every spring, with thousands of candidates remaining “without a master’s degree”, stuck in a funnel that the ministry, according to them, pretends not to see.
Before the senators in July, Sylvie Retailleau estimated that the offer was 190,000 places for 145,000 applications, and regretted that, including in law, “some universities, like Brest, far from being saturated, do not fill all the places offered”. “Opening spaces elsewhere would be a waste of public money! »had judged the minister, closing the door to any increase in the volume of places – and the means of supervision that they would have required.
The new portal completely reverses the current operation. National, it will allow a single submission of applications between 1er March and April 3, 2023, but additional documents may be requested from candidates and vary depending on the training. Today unlimited, the number of wishes is set at fifteen initial training courses and fifteen additional work-study master’s courses, without the possibility of expressing an order of preference.
From June 19, the student will be notified either of a classification rank or of a refusal by the head of the establishment. He will have to respond within a very short time, ranging from seventy-two to twenty-four hours. The reasons for refusal of admission will remain at the discretion of the establishments.
