The former husband suspected of Thursday’s murder of a woman in the middle of the street in a village in Savoie was arrested on Friday 1er September morning and placed in police custody, learned Agence France-Presse (AFP) from the Chambéry prosecutor’s office.
“He was just arrested at 10:10 a.m. this morning” in Arvillard, a town near La Croix-de-la-Rochette (Savoie), where the facts took place, said Chambéry prosecutor Pierre-Yves Michau. The man was apprehended ” without difficulty “according to Michau.
The suspect’s vehicle was spotted in the parking lot of a Buddhist meditation center on Thursday, but the search turned up nothing immediately, the prosecution said. “They resumed this morning [vendredi] and he was arrested in the immediate vicinity of his vehicle. There were no difficulties”, he specified. According to a source close to the investigation, the suspect was arrested by gendarmes from the Gendarmerie Surveillance and Intervention Platoon (PSIG) as part of a search system led by the Gendarmerie Intervention Group national (GIGN).
The murder occurred on Thursday morning on the public highway when the victim, a police officer, dropped off a child at the crèche in the village of La Croix-de-la-Rochette, near Chambéry, while she was out service. The suspected man, born in 1962 and with whom she had two children, killed her “with a blunt object”according to one of the sources familiar with the matter.
