INTERVIEW – Twice Palme d’or, the Swedish director returns to the Croisette as president of the jury. Behind an apparent relaxation, a task he takes very seriously.

In May 2022, Ruben Ostlund receives the Palme d’Or for Without filter, presented by the president of the jury, Vincent Lindon. Already winner in 2017 with The Squarethe 49-year-old Swedish director is consolidating his status as an enfant terrible and darling of the Cannes Film Festival, where he has presented most of his films (Happy Sweden, Play, Snow Therapy).

He’s already back this year, this time in the President’s costume. Monday, May 15, a few hours before the first dinner with the members of his jury, Östlund takes the time to answer our questions.

LE FIGARO. – As president of the jury, you are staying at the Carlton. Where did you sleep the first time you came to Cannes, with Happy Sweden in 2008 ?
