According to the San Diego Police Department’s statement, the incident occurred on the “Blacks Beach” and 8 people were killed.

Search and rescue efforts were launched last night under heavy fog. Helicopter flights could not be carried out due to the fog hindering the work.

One of the survivors said that the capsized migrant boat came from Mexico.

IMMIGRATION TO THE USA

Immigrants to the US, usually via South America, cross by using the land border with Mexico.

According to the California Institute of Public Policy, there are 11 million illegal immigrants in California alone, accounting for about 22 percent of the state’s population.

The US Customs and Border Protection Service (CBP) announced that the number of irregular migrants stopped at the Mexican border in December 2022 increased by 40 percent compared to the same period last year, to 251,487.

U.S. President Joe Biden said on January 5 that immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela could be admitted to the United States under the decision allowing them to stay in the country temporarily, for urgent humanitarian reasons.

Biden stated that approximately 30 thousand immigrants will be accepted per month in this framework and announced that immigrants will be allowed to live and work in the country for 2 years if they apply online, pay their flight tickets and find financial sponsors. (AA)
