Imprisoned civil engineer of the destroyed apartment building: There are no cracks in the others
Abdullah Yeldan, the imprisoned civil engineer of Beluk Apartment, which was destroyed in the second earthquake in Kahramanmaraş and failed the earthquake resistance test in the core samples taken from the column concretes, did not accept the accusations by citing the example of not demolition of the other buildings that he designed and implemented in Adana.
Beluk Apartment Building in the Güzelyalı District of Adana’s central Çukurova district, which was heavily damaged in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on 6 February in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş, was demolished with a magnitude of 7.6 in the center of Elbistan, which occurred 9 hours later.
Core samples were taken from the columns and concrete during the works started after the collapse of the Beluk Apartment. Abdullah Yeldan, the civil engineer of the apartment building, which turned out to be earthquake resistant in the laboratory studies, was arrested on 16 February.
“THE BUILDINGS THAT BELONG TO ME ARE NOT EVEN CRACKED”
Abdullah Yeldan, in his statement at the prosecutor’s office, did not accept the accusations against him. Explaining that other buildings he built in Adana were not demolished, Yeldan said that he started the project in 1992 with the assignment of the cooperative founded by FP, and said:
* “I was responsible as a civil engineer until the project was completed. Cooperative manager FP was my interlocutor. I don’t remember the names of the later presidents. As far as I can remember, I completed this construction in 1998. I was involved in the implementation of the project from the beginning to the end. The building was in the form of 2 blocks, 15 floors each. I calculate how many bags of cement and how much iron will be placed and implement the project accordingly.
* I did all the calculations. The building was destroyed in the second earthquake. Despite being evacuated in the first earthquake, citizens who went inside to get their belongings were left under the rubble. There are not even cracks in the buildings that I have built in Adana, whose project and application belong to me. I do not accept the accusations.” DHA
