“So, are you heavy?” Are you going to destroy him? » Since journalist Virginie Vilar has been investigating with a view to producing a portrait of Cyril Hanouna for the program “Complément d’investigation” on France 2, many have been questioning her about this… ” Well no ! “, replied the person concerned, Wednesday November 29, at the end of the partial screening organized on the eve of the broadcast (the interview with rapper Booba, in long-standing conflict with the host, planned for the end of the broadcast was missing). ’emission).

“Our goal is not to shoot red bullets [sur Hanouna] »confirms Tristan Waleckx, who presents the investigative magazine. The idea being rather to relate the journey of this little guy from “9-3” who became an essential millionaire of “PAF” with his talk show “Touche pas à mon poste” (TPMP), i.e. two and a half hours of live outside of control, every evening from Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. on the C8 channel (Canal+ group).

Braggart, provocative, “Baba” (his nickname in TPMP) does not mind going beyond the limits, as long as there is buzz and an audience. Its broadcasts thus provide 49% of C8’s advertising revenue, according to the channel. What justifies unconditional support from the owner, Vincent Bolloréeven when you have to pay the colossal fines imposed by the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom), the former CSA, for various insults, phobic hoaxes, clandestine advertising: 7.5 million euros in thirteen years – a figure revealed in the documentary – for twenty-nine sanctions and calls to order.

“This is the most complicated investigation of my career”ures Virginie Vilar (who worked for ten years at “Envoyé Spécial” before joining “Complément d’investigation”) in Telerama of December 2, which devotes a file to the millionaire presenter.

Changes, pressures, omerta… Initially, the journalist had obtained the green light to film behind the scenes of TPMP, then the communications service withdrew. Cyril Hanouna had suggested that she follow him for a day, but he changed his mind. She just managed to hand him her microphone by surprise two minutes after leaving the Maison de la radio, in a fairly unexpected sequence, with a friendly tone. On the other hand, she was able to speak to Valérie Bénaïm, TPMP columnist and friend of Cyril Hanouna for twenty years.

Questionable methods

In all, Virginie Vilar contacted nearly 250 people and thirty-two direct collaborators. Among the latter, nine refused to talk about working relationships, eight found it great, and fifteen denounced difficult relationships.
