DECRYPTION – TotalEnergies is launching a call for tenders to buy 500,000 tonnes per year.
There decarbonization of industry is underway, and it will be done using green hydrogen. TotalEnergies has just struck a major blow with a call for tenders for the supply of 500,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year on a European scale. Objective of the energy giant: decarbonize the group’s six “traditional” refineries in Europe (three in France – Normandy, Donges and Feyzin – one in Belgium, one in Germany and one in the Netherlands) and two biorefineries in France ( in La Mède and Grandpuits). This green hydrogen must replace current fossil hydrogen by 2030.
This call for tenders proves that investments in the production of green or low-carbon hydrogen, pushed by public authorities in France and Europe, meet a real demand from manufacturers. In a study published in December, France Hydrogène, which brings together the entire sector in France, specified that “the decarbonization of industry remains the preferred route to mification”
