Inter Milan have asked UEFA to open an investigation after Italian fans with tickets were blocked outside the Porto stadium without being able to enter.

Inter Milan on Wednesday asked UEFA for an investigation the day after its supporters, who had tickets, were blocked in front of the Porto stadium in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League.

On Tuesday, a thousand Inter fans were blocked outside the Estadio do Dragao despite having valid tickets, on the grounds that the latter had been bought for the stands intended for home supporters and not for visitors. They were stuck in a cramped tunnel until the gates closed at the end of the first half, unable to watch the game.

“FC Internazionale Milano asks UEFA to intervene so that light is shed on what happened and that situations of this kind, contrary to the key principles of sportsmanship, equality and inclusion, never happen agains,” Inter said in a statement. The Italian club also criticized the mishandling of the situation, saying it exposed supporters, including children, to “potential danger”.
