Iran: two players from the selection send their condolences to the families of the victims

Iran players are preparing to play their 5th World Cup (November 20 – December 18), but the current events of the country also mobilize the attention of the players. At a press conference on Saturday in Doha, Hossein Hosseini and Vahid Amiri addressed their “Condolences to the families of the victims” and expressed their solidarity. All in a context of repression while a protest movement, harshly repressed, affects the Islamic Republic.

Since September 16, the date of the death of Mahsa Amini, imprisoned by the Tehran police for “inappropriate dress” and who died in hospital, Iran has experienced a wave of popular protest against the regime. According to the HRANA news agency, 344 people have been killed and 15,280 arrested in the past two months. The coach of the team Carlos Queiroz had authorized his players to protest “in accordance with the rules of the competition”.

On the pitch, Iran will start their World Cup against England on Monday, November 21 (2 p.m.) in Group B.
