Irishman van der Flier voted best player of the year and preferred to Dupont

Voted best player in the world last season, Antoine Dupont will not do the double.

Irishman Josh van der Flier was named world’s best player of the year 2022 at the World Rugby Awards ceremony on Sunday in Monaco, succeeding French scrum-half Antoine Dupont.

The 29-year-old third-row, a European Cup finalist with the Irish province of Leinster, was in contention alongside his compatriot and fly-half Jonathan Sexton, South African center Lukhanyo Am and Dupont, at new name this year.
