The Kedzierzyn-Kozle club won in a 100% Polish final.
French Olympic champions Benjamin Toniutti, Stephen Boyer and Trévor Clévenot lost with their Polish club Jastrzebski in the golden set in the final of the Volleyball Champions League on Saturday in Turin against their local rival Kedzierzyn-Kozle.
This is the third coronation in a row for this other Polish club, the former team of captain and smuggler of the Blues Benjamin Toniutti, which he had led to a first coronation in 2021.
Swept 25-14 in the third set, the blue trio club reacted well in the next, where Jastrzebski saved three match points before snatching the sleeve (30-28).
Freshly champions of Poland by outcling Kedzierzyn-Kozle ten days earlier, they ended up folding in the golden set 15-12 where a first Champions League title escaped Jastrzebski. Stephen Boyer’s 20 points like Trévor Clévenot’s 18 points were not enough.
The 100% Istanbul women’s final between the Valifbank club and that of Eczacibasi turned earlier in the day to the advantage of the first (3-1), that of the Italian Paola Egonu, who scored twice in front of her public in Turin, after the coronation already in 2022.
The sharp 24-year-old, of Nigerian origin, stacked 40 points and won her face-to-face with the Serbian Tijana Boskovic (16 pts), MVP of the last World Cup having crowned Serbia in the fall.
