Lavrov said Blinken and Borrell are afraid of an “honest conversation”

The early departure of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell from Skopje, where a meeting of the Council of OSCE Foreign Ministers was held, demonstrates their cowardice. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following the meeting.

“They probably believe that by doing so they emphasize their intention to isolate Russia. But I think that they are simply cowardly, they are afraid of any honest conversation with facts in hand,” Lavrov said.

The Russian minister noted that he “didn’t run away anywhere,” unlike Blinken. Lavrov added that the ministers of Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic countries were also absent from the events of the Council of OSCE Foreign Ministers.

On November 30, the Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Skopje to participate in a meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers. He is participating in an event at this European platform for the first time since February 2022. Due to the participation of the Russian minister in the meeting, the event was boycotted by the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

On November 30, Lavrov held bilateral meetings with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó and Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg. Also on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council, negotiations between the Russian minister and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu took place. In addition, Lavrov held a trilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, and the Foreign Minister of Malta, Jan Borg.
