Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will speak during the general political discussion of the UN General embly, which will be held in New York in the second half of September, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“WITH. V. Lavrov will speak during the general political discussion of the General embly, which will be held from September 19 to 26, and will also take part in a number of bilateral meetings and multilateral events, including through the UN Security Council, BRICS, the CSTO and the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter ” , the message says.
During the General embly, Russia will defend the approaches enshrined in the foreign policy concept updated in March. Moscow will stand for the restoration of the role of the UN as the central world coordinating mechanism and the preservation of its charter, as well as for building a fair and democratic polycentric world order together with like-minded countries from among the states of the global South. The Russian side will also propose its draft resolutions in the field of arms control, prevention of space militarization, etc.
The high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General embly will begin in New York on 19 September. At the end of July, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, said that Vladimir Putin had no plans to participate in its work yet. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted at the end of August that there were no signs that there would be a breakdown in the issue of issuing American visas to members of the delegation and journalists of the Russian Federation. Last year, at the 77th session of the UN General embly, the visit of the Russian delegation for a long time remained in doubt due to non-issuance of visas.
The UN General embly was established in 1945 and is the main deliberative, policy-making and representative body of the world organization, it includes all 193 members of the UN. The main session of the embly takes place in September – December of each year, and the resumed one meets from January to September if necessary.
Putin approved the concept of Russia’s foreign policy at the end of March, as Lavrov said, it contains the idea of the need to end the West’s monopoly on the formation of the framework of international life, they should be determined not in the West’s selfish interests, but on the basis of a fair balance of interests.
