After more than 10 years in the Turin jersey, defender Leonardo Bonucci announced on his club’s Youtube channel that he would retire at the end of next season.
After his friend Giorgio Chiellini in 2022, it will soon be Leonardo Bonucci to bow out. The central defender, 36-year-old Italian international, will leave the juve and hang up his cleats next year. He announced his decision in an interview for the Turin club’s Youtube channel.
“When I stop playing next year (at the end of the 2023/2024 season), an era of defense will come to an end. A way of interpreting the Italian defense. As a child, when you chase the ball, you dream of wearing a shirt like Juve’s and succeeding in doing it 500 times is to have marked the history of Juve. It’s a great emotion. Wearing this jersey was like living in a dream for 12 years and inside me there is always this child who is happy to get back on the pitch because it was his dream.»
