The Lille coach hailed his side’s character and ambition after the 2-1 win over Marseille.
Paulo Fonseca (Lille coach, after the 2-1 victory against Marseille on Saturday):
“We changed our system because we wanted to block Marseille players in the corridors. They are very strong in the hallways and I think with this system we blocked them very well. We knew it wouldn’t be a game with many chances. It’s difficult to have a lot of chances against a team that marks individually. But when we had the chance to have the ball, we had to rotate. (On the unprecedented defense, because of injuries) Today we played with Bafodé, who played central defender for the first time, and Leny Yoro, who is 17, it’s not easy. Tim (Weah) is not a right-back. This defense is the first time they have played together. They played with great character, great ambition. It will be very difficult, but I want to see our supporters in the next match. It will be very important that our supporters are there, that they come to fill the stadium.»
