Lula condemns racist insults towards Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) in La Liga



The day after the defeat of Real Madrid in Valencia (0-1), in La Liga, it is above all the new racist insults of which Vinicius Junior was the victim during the meeting which always attracts attention. On the sidelines of the G7 in which he is participating in Hiroshima, Japan, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva even intervened on the subject to defend his compatriot.

“He was attacked. They called him a monkey, Lula was indignant at a press conference. It is not possible, in the middle of the 21st century, to have such strong racial prejudices in so many football stadiums”, claiming the « solidarity towards the Brazilian striker. “It’s unfair that a poor boy who has done so well in life, who may be on his way to becoming the best player in the world – he is certainly the best in Real Madrid – is insulted in all the stadiums where he plays. »

The politician also called for a reaction from the authorities. He therefore asked the International Federation (FIFA) as well as the Spanish League to take “serious measures”: “We cannot allow fascism and racism to take hold in football stadiums. »
