The Spaniard broke the women’s 35 km world walking record by 29 seconds.

Spain’s Maria Perez broke the world record for the women’s 35km walk by nearly half a minute at the European Team Walking Championships on Sunday, eclipsing the mark set by Peru’s Kimberly Garcia a year ago only two months.

Carrying the Spanish flag, Perez broke the record in the World Athletics Race Walking Tour Gold event with a time of two hours, 37 minutes and 15 seconds in the Czech town of Podebrady, 29 seconds faster than Garcia’s mark .

Perez completed the Spanish podium by finishing more than eight minutes ahead of Raquel Gonzalez, while Cristina Montesinos took third place.
