Memphis Depay (Netherlands) is expected to play one half against Ecuador

After a first match against Senegal which ended well (2-0), the Netherlands can take an option on first place in group A if they win this Friday against Ecuador, winner 2- 0 from Qatar last Sunday. “But Ecuador is an even better organized opponent than Senegal, smart. So it will be more difficult”considers Louis van Gaal.

The Dutch coach indicated on Thursday that his striker Memphis Depay could play 45 minutes. The former Lyon striker, who recovered for two months from a femoral biceps injury in his left thigh, went 0-0 in the last half hour against Senegal on Monday.

His playing time should therefore go crescendo against Ecuador, but the coach takes a lot of precautions for a player “incredibly important”, hoping he can play full-time in the second part of the competition. In his absence, it was Vincent Janssen who started on Monday. Luuk de Jong may be another option.
