The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner only played 37 minutes last night before giving up his place.
Lionel Messi came off in the 37th minute of play on Wednesday against Toronto, during the North American Football Championship (MLS) match on Wednesday, won 4-0 by Inter Miami.
On Saturday, Messi watched his team’s 5-2 defeat against Atlanta United from the sidelines. Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino previously said the player was suffering from “muscle fatigue”.
Messi appeared uncomfortable on Wednesday and moved gingerly before handing his captain’s armband to teammate DeAndre Yedlin and leaving the field.
Miami’s loss to Atlanta on Saturday marked the first in 12 matches in all competitions since Messi and Spaniards Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets joined the team in July.
Messi, 36, did not feature in World Cup qualifying match Argentina against Bolivia in La Paz last Tuesday, but he watched the match from the sidelines.
